Yes, yes and YES! A fresh full set of lash extensions just feels right? Don't you agree? Naturally, we want to keep this feeling (and our lashes) for as long as possible. Lets look at how to take care of our lashes after our appointment.

  1. Avoid getting them wet for up to 24 hours after application.
  2. Do not sleep on your face.
  3. Do not used oil based products (or unapproved cleansers) around the eyes.
  4. Brush your eyelashes in the morning.
  5. Do not rub your eyes or pick your lashes.
  6. Clean with eyelash foam cleanser every 3 days.
  7. Keep up with your refills (every 2-3 weeks).

Avoid getting your lashes wet too soon

As a rule, we typically tell everyone not to get their lash extensions wet 24-48 hours after getting them done. The reason behind this is water tends to react with the extension glue and cause it to flash cure. This can cause discomfort and can also cause the bond to break prematurely. At Glamourati Beauty we are sure to apply the extensions correctly as well as implement tools to help speed up the drying time- but still recommend you wait at least 24 hours before showering, working out, or hitting the sauna.

Wait.. I can't sleep on my face?

Nope. Honestly don't even risk it. The amount of sets ruined by non-lash-extension-friendly sleeping are unreal. If you know you're probably going to somehow end up on your face (it happens), then I highly recommend investing in two game changers.
  1. Eyelash Extension Sleep Mask- I personally own a few of these and they're amazing. They're different from your typical sleep masks because the spaces for your nose and eyes aren't flat. They're concave enough to cover your eyes and prevent your lashes from dragging against the mask- or your pillow/blankets.
  2. Satin Pillowcase- These are great if eye masks aren't your thing. I actually think everyone should own these because cotton can be so drying to our skin and hair, but these are a great addition to help your lash retention as well. Why? Lashes glide across these instead of dragging like on cotton.

Oh no! Does eye makeup have oil?
Depends. They don't ALL contain oil, but you'd have to investigate before using. Certain oils are notorious for weakening the adhesive. We tell clients to try to stay away from all oils to err on the side of caution, but it should be noted that mineral oil, coconut oil, canola oil and vegetable oils are said to be the worst of them all. It isn't risking your lash extension retention. If you MUST wear makeup, try to find brands or lines that say they are "eyelash extension friendly". Also, once it is time to clean your face be sure to use an approved eyelash foam cleanser and carefully clean all of the eye makeup off. You can find one here available for shipment or pickup.

I really have to brush my lashes?
Absolutely. Use a spoolie to gently brush your lashes throughout the day. Brushing your lashes keeps them all facing the same way, releases any extensions that may be loose, and just keeps them overall looking neat. I personally will brush my lashes if I can "feel" them (you know what I mean). giving them a quick brush almost always corrects the issue.

Find a spoolie tube in your take home bag!

I'm not touching..
Are you sure? You want to keep your hands away from your eyes and lashes because
  1. COVID still exists.
  2. It's incredibly easy to get carried away checking for "loose" extensions or fans. You know what I mean. We believe they were loose but sometimes its in fact the unnecessary touching that loosens the extensions. Lash picking can be something done unconsciously, but has major consequences. Pulling extensions out can result in permanent eyelash loss.

Refills?
A refill is where your lash tech will go through what lashes are still attached to remove extensions that will be falling out soon, but also adding new extensions to fill blank spaces created by normal natural lash shed. It is imperative that you stay on top of scheduling your refills. Scheduling your refill too late can be the difference between a Level 1 or Level 2 refill. Sometimes it can even be the difference between Level 2 and a full set. If you don't have many lash extensions left, you may need to consider getting a full set. Since everyone's lashes grow at different rates and speeds, we decided to price our refills based how long it'll take your tech to achieve a certain level of fullness, as opposed to how long its been since your last full set.
So in short, lash extensions can definitely enhance your everyday look. Proper aftercare isn't just for the LOOK of your lash extensions, it also benefits the health of your natural lashes.

Do you have a lash aftercare regiment you absolutely love?
